The Life and Pontificate of St. John Paul II examines the extraordinary life and papacy of Pope St. John Paul II the Great and his immense legacy for the Church and the world. Those who complete this course will be able to describe the early life, priesthood, and Cardinalate of Karol Wojtyla under first, the Nazis, and then, the Communists in Poland; summarize his work at the Second Vatican Council; and give reasons why his pontificate (1978-2005) was unprecedented. In addition, students should be able to identify John Paul’s key papal teachings and explain the cause for his canonization.
