CHIST-N128-Early American Catholic History, 1492-1808 (1 CEU)
This online individual course (formerly 306-0522) is part of a series that addresses the history of the Catholic Church in North America from the arrival of Christopher Columbus in 1492 to the present time. This course will provide a survey of the foundations of the Catholic faith in North America. It will focus on the earliest efforts at evangelization, the rise of Catholic presence in the English colonies, and the establishment of a lasting Catholic hierarchy and organization in the young United States of America. Students who complete this course should be able to identify and explain the key events, personalities, and struggles that characterized the early development of the Catholic community in North America.
